Company: Publicis Sapient | Client: Hyundai | Role: Experience Design
Background
For Hyundai the challenge was to design a interactive tablet application for the International Autoshow show-floor. As attendees are moving through the Autoshow how can we give them information about the Hyundai vehicle line and brand in a short amount of time? Our ask was to represent vehicle information in a quick and meaningful way.
Process
Our process began with a compressed research phase where I collected best practices, competitive and touch-device and kiosk recommendations (pulling primarily from Nielsen Norman Group). The creative team collaborated very closely with development, account and product. With multiple client touch-points, we supported the work with this light research as a foundation for any design decisions we would recommend for the final product.
Designing specifically at the tablet breakpoint was an interesting challenge, especially when considering the physical layout and space, height of the Autoshow stand and the duration of attendee attention - an example is considering the idle states of the application. My role was focused on navigation design, interaction design and best practices for the overall experience. I was able to focus on my presentation skills while designing this quick turnaround product with a new client and the opportunity gave me the chance had to sell the value of user experience.
Closing thoughts
As a UX designer the Hyundai WheelStand App was a great chance for me to learn a new set of design skills, with a solely tablet design and physical installation experience. Working directly with full-stack development was great for validating any designs that were user focused and recommended but perhaps too far out-of-scope and would not work for technical limitations in place.
